I've Been Thinking

The Ruminations of a Retired Pastor

A first post

Almost every week, as I prepare my sermon there’s stuff that gets left out. It’s not unusual for me to run up one alley early in the week; then, at the end  of the week the spirit takes me in another direction, sometimes a completely different direction. Later, I’ll look back at a page or two that got left out and think, “There’s some good stuff there.”

Those pages have languished in files called “Sermon Notes,” – Ordinary 13B Sermon Notes, or something like that. Often, while preparing a sermon, I will think of a movie scene or a song that’s a good reference; but then, I just don’t use it. Perhaps it’s too much trouble, or it interrupts the flow of my sermon to stop  at a particular point and cue up a movie; and, for many songs I would have to include the lyrics on a separate page, for my congregation to follow the song.

So, I have decided that I need a place for the good stuff – the movies, the songs and the prose – that doesn’t get preached on Sunday.

I hope you enjoy.

I would love to hear from you
